This might be a big vacation week, but the sports world never takes a day off. Here's what we're watching tonight:

Tuesday Night Football: Minnesota Vikings at Philadelphia Eagles, 8 p.m. ET, NBC. As a result of the Snowpocalypse, it's the first NFL game on a Tuesday night since 1946 (and Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell is not happy about it). The Eagles have clinched the NFC East but are playing for seeding and a potential first-round bye (even more important with a short week in Week 17). The Vikings are playing for pride and will not have Brett Favre due to a concussion, but expect to have running back Adrian Peterson. Fun fact via Joe Fortenbaugh of the National Football Post: Since 2001, the Eagles are 5-0 against the Vikings (including playoffs) with four double-digit victories. Average margin of victory: 14.8 points.

College football: It's a bowl doubleheader on ESPN starting at 6:30 p.m. ET with the Champs Sports Bowl from Orlando. No. 22 West Virginia (9-3), having just missed out on a BCS bowl, takes on North Carolina State (8-4) out of the ACC. Next, at 10 p.m. ET, it's the Insight Bowl from Tempe, Arizona, where No. 12 Missouri takes on Iowa. The team in black and gold has a good chance to win it. Disclaimer: that is a joke. Please laugh.

NCAA men's basketball: The game of the night is a Big Ten showdown as No. 13 Minnesota (11-1) visits No. 24 Wisconsin (10-2) in the teams' only scheduled meeting this season (7 p.m. ET, ESPN2). In Bo Ryan's nine seasons as the Badgers' coach, Wisconsin is 69-6 at home in Big Ten games.

NCAA women's basketball: No. 4 Xavier at No. 8 Stanford, 4 p.m. ET. Now that Stanford head coach Tara VanDerveer has won her 800th career game, she's going for 801 against yet another top-10 opponent. At 10 p.m. ET, No. 1 UConn (11-0) visits Pacific (3-9), seeking its NCAA-record setting 90th straight win. If you're in the Central Valley and thinking of checking out the game, it's sold out, as a record crowd of over 6,000 is expected.

NBA games of the night: New York Knicks (18-12) travel to Miami (23-9), winners of 15 of its last 16 (7:30 p.m. ET). & The Los Angeles Lakers (21-9) look to rebound from their Christmas Day loss to the Heat when they visit the league-best San Antonio Spurs (26-4) (8:30 p.m. ET).

NHL: The Sidney Crosby Watch continues as the Penguins' star looks to extend his point streak to 25 games when Pittsburgh takes on the Atlanta Thrashers.

The reason the league schedules Thursday night games is because the advertising rates are so much higher on Thursday then any other night of the week. A regular network show can get smaller ratings on a Thursday night but make more money then a program that wins it’s night any other night of the week.
