California's Bunting, Oregon State's Gaviglio Named Pac-10 Baseball Players of the Week



WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - CALIFORNIA junior center fielder Chad Bunting has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week and OREGON STATE junior right-handed pitcher Sam Gaviglio has been named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 21-27, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.

The Ukiah, Calif., native finished the Caravelle Resorts Tournament 7-for-12 (.583) with four runs and a double. Bunting helped the Golden Bears finish with a .355 team batting average and 0.33 ERA in the tournament.

This marks the first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor for Bunting and California’s 45th all-time Player of the Week selection.

Gaviglio allowed just two hits in the Beavers’ 2-0 shutout of No. 14 Connecticut at the Kleberg Bank Classic. No runner got past first base and Gaviglio faced 29 batters, just two over the minimum. Through two games this season, Gaviglio has worked 15 1/3 innings and allowed just two runs, both unearned.
