SHALIMAR -- An Orkin man who showed up at a 5th Avenue home for an annual termite inspection left after the resident aimed a handgun at him and started yelling.

He made contact with a resident who gave him permission to do the inspection but as he returned to his vehicle for his equipment, he was approached by Deidre Lynne Ashley.

Ashley approached him in a "threatening and hostile" manner and told him to get off the property, according to her Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office arrest report.

The Orkin man asked her what had happened and she became "increasingly agitated," he told the deputy.

Ashley then yelled into the residence for a man to get her a gun. By the time the Orkin man reached the driver's side of his vehicle, she was standing at her door with a handgun, aiming it at him and yelling for him to leave.

Ashley told the deputy that she had armed herself with a handgun while telling the man to leave her property. She added that he did not make any threat to her or her property, according to her arrest report.

She said she wanted him to leave and for Orkin to never return to her property, and that she was "making a statement."

She was charged Dec. 4 with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill for the incident, according to her report.
