It seems like new information is discovered about something every day. And the topic of is no exception. Keep reading to get more fresh news about .
As I tossed and turned yesterday, I heard a buzz on my cell phone. It was my good friend and Missouri Tigers fan Adam Cartwright. A.C. broke the news that Blaine Gabbert was declaring for the 2011 NFL Draft. Furthermore, A.C. told me that ESPN Draft Expert Todd McShay predicted Gabbert was going to go number 5 to the Arizona Cardinals. While Gabbert is good, my old friend and I laughed and wondered what tape McShay was watching because Blaine Gabbert is not the second best QB in this year’s class but McShay is the so-called expert.
Today, on www.espn.com, there was a story that broke stating the Carolina Panthers are officially taking Andrew Luck with the first pick in the draft if the QB declares himself. Luck’s second half performance was impressive against a tough Virginia Tech team and Luck is certainly worthy of consideration for the number 1 pick.
We’ve heard that Auburn QB Cam Newton is going to declare for the draft and that Washington Huskies QB Jake Locker helped his draft stock after a stellar Holiday Bowl performance which showcased that Locker may actually be the best…scrambling signal called in the draft. Amongst all of these rumors, it is curious as to why Arkansas QB Ryan Mallett is not getting more national attention.
Let me go on the record and say that Mallett has more raw ability than any quarterback in recent history. While talent along will not get the job done at the next level, Mallett simply looks like a winner. Despite a cannon arm and all of the other intangibles scouts hope for, Mallett is not getting the national attention of some of his peers. That could all change tonight as the Arkansas Razorbacks take on the Ohio State Buckeyes in the 2011 Sugar Bowl.
A gutty performance tonight could be more valuable than winning the Mega Millions for Ryan Mallett but to succeed, he’ll have to overcome a stingy Ohio State Defense.
The Buckeyes have been mired in controversy for the past few weeks and even at this point there is still no clear cut answer if Ohio State Head Coach Jim Tressel will bench any of his players. The smart money says no. While Tressel has always been called a “Disciplinarian” for some reason (the facts do not back that statement up), he wants to win the Sugar Bowl and it is unlikely any of his players will miss playing time. With that said, the time to shine for Ryan Mallett is now.
While Mallett has had a tremendous season, the Sugar Bowl will be the time for Mallett to put up or shut-up. If Mallett plays the way he’s capable, Sugar will be sweet. If the OSU defense clampers down, Mallett may go from sweet to sour in the course of 3 hours.
At the end of the day, we’ll go out on a limb and say that Ryan Mallett will show the world why he deserves to be the top player picked in the 2011 NFL Draft. Enjoy the game
