Ron Franklin Fired! Was Reaction to Jeanne Edwards Comments Too Harsh?
In today's world, it seems that almost any topic is open for debate. While I was gathering facts for this article, I was quite surprised to find some of the issues I thought were settled are actually still being openly discussed.
If you base what you do on inaccurate information, you might be unpleasantly surprised by the consequences. Make sure you get the whole story from informed sources.
On Tuesday ESPN announcer Ron Franklin was fired in reaction to making not just making derogatory but sexist comments to fellow ESPN reporter Jeannine Edwards.
Initially he was just pulled from announcing the football game on Saturday, but after calling Jeanne Edwards not just “sweet cakes” but an “a-hole,” ESPN took the bold move to fire him. But was that a overreaction to his very questionable way of addressing a co-worker?
After the events took place, he did apologize for his remarks saying, “I said some things I shouldn’t have, and I’m sorry,” Franklin said in a statement issued by ESPN. “I deserved to be taken off the Fiesta Bowl.”
But it wasn’t just the Fiesta Bowl at stake, it was his entire career.
ESPN said about the events over the weekend, “We made a late play-by-play change to the Fiesta Bowl radio team. We’re not going to get into specifics other than to say adhering to our personal conduct policies and showing respect for colleagues are of the utmost importance to our company and we take them extremely seriously.”
Do you think he should have just been suspended or maybe demoted? Or do you think being fired was an appropriate action by ESPN? But at least it’s a good lesson for the kids! Make sure to treat everyone with respect!
Those who only know one or two facts about can be confused by misleading information. The best way to help those who are misled is to gently correct them with the truths you're learning here.
